The decision to strip 18plus of it's national status and censor national officers from contributing was nothing other than an ill judged attempt at destroying the forum and the hours of hard work that went into creating it.
It deprived national officers of their ability to make use of the fourm and myself of my ability to augment 18 Plus communications by promoting events covered in the National Bulk Post.
Censoring National Officers was nothing more than an attempt at controlling access to free speech in what is supposed to be a democratic voluntary and social organisation.
Despite that attempt, many national officials refuse to obey the NEC decision and indeed one NEC member was removed from his post due to his stance. Most of those I have spoken to at national disagree with the decision, some feel they were swept along, other observers tell me their attempts to protest the decisions were ignored.
Overall the issue highlights what some of us are up against in some quarters of 18 Plus to get things to change.
However, John and myself would also like to see the lighter side of this dumb decision. It is not for instance much of a way of treating volunteers.
Knowing that this list now plays such an important role in 18 Plus I would like to find other moderators who can fight the cause, defend the list and keep it on-track. I would prefer any such person to have national experience and be a current regular list user, well know in 18 Plus. |
